A tour of the Basque coast visiting museums, whalers, cider house and towns with whaling tradition. A spectacular landscape with some of the most beautiful corners of the Iberian Peninsula.

The greatest activity of Basque whaling fishing took place in the 14th and 15th centuries.

You will discover coastal villages that are descended from the mountain, the Hermitage of San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, the village of Bermeo, Gernika, Getaria and we will visit cities such as Bilbao or San Sebastian. You will sleep in charming country houses and hotels and enjoy the gastronomy of the Basque Country.

Description

In the footsteps of Basque whalers

The route of the whalers has a total of 204.9 km that are covered in 4 stages.

Stage 1:

With a length of 63.1 km, this stage will take us from Bilbao to Bermeo. We will visit the Naval Museum of Bilbao, the village of Plentzia, San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, the port of Bermeo and the arrantzale museum. Accommodation in country house.

Stage 2:

In the second stage we will travel 48 km, from Bermeo to Lekeitio. After breakfast we will visit the Aita Guria,a tuna that represents the way of life aboard a Basque whaler. Dinner and accommodation in Lekeitio.

Stage 3:

The third stage runs between Lekeitio and Guetaria. 46 km and a half along the Basque coast. In Mutriku and Deba visit the center of the towns with a local guide who will explain the relationship of them with the whalers. Dinner and accommodation in Guetaria.

Stage 4:

We will travel the last stretch, 47.4 km between Guetaria and Astigarraga, touring places as incredible as Zarautz, Orio and Donostia. In the capital Guipuzcoana we will visit the Untzi museoa and the historic center. From here we head to the Albaola factory where a whaling with the same techniques as 400 years ago is being reconstructed.

End of the day and the cider route of Astigarraga. Accommodation in the same town.
